The date for this year's event is Sunday 2nd November 2008. The Ullswater Trail is a 12km course along the most scenic lakeside trails in the Lake District.
Online entries for this year's event will be available from 21/04/08. There will be a limit of 600 (three sailings with 200 on board each). Last year's event recieved an overall approvals rating of 98% from the readers of Runnersworld magazine, and was listed the 12th best race in the UK in 2007.
A stunning, beautiful half hour cruise aboard the Ullswater Steamer "Raven", whilst being seranaded by virtuoso guitarist singer/songwriter Pete Lashley, brings you to the start in the hamlet of Howtown. The course along well marked and marshalled footpaths and bridleways follows the lake shore, giving panoramic views of Hellvelyn and the surrounding peaks. Much of the course passes through ancient woodland, which will be at it's autumnal best.
Underfoot conditions can be tricky at times, especially if wet. The trail is quite rocky in places and great care is needed if running fast. Check out the slide show of the course.
The finish arena will be adjacent to the Ullswater Steamers pier where a warm welcome awaits you, along with a substantial hot Wilf's meal, (vegetarian option too), along with tea or coffee included in the entry fee. Event car parking is at King George V Playing Fields, a short 5 minute walk to the pier.
The course has kilometre markers, there are great prizes on offer for the Trail Race, and veteran classes winnner's.
There are children's Fun Trails too for under 8's (400m), under 10's (800m) & under 12's (800m) - short laps around the finish arena for all abilities. Every finisher gets a specially engraved medal, and there are winner's prizes and junior spot prizes too.
An awesome day out !
